DOMAIN 6
6.1 Understand the general education curriculum and supports to facilitate learner success.
This artifact explores the topic of test scoring, graphing, and interpreting data from a Curriculum-Based Measurement (CBM) in Mathematics. It was am analysis and interpretation of the data provided during a 10 week progress assessment of an eight year old student. The artifact explores the ideas of partial credit answers and para support.
6.2 Integrate a range of environmental supports that maximize learning.
This artifact was an SPED 757 assignment over creating an ideal classroom that can provide supports to meet all of the different needs of learners that come through the classroom on a daily or weekly basis. This artifact discusses ideal set-ups for a classroom that can be utilized for both individualized and group instruction.
6.3 Modify verbal and nonverbal communication and instructional behavior to meet learner needs.
This artifact is an project reflection over the social skills project from SPED 871. It reflected on areas of nonverbal communication and the technology-aided communication that was used to help meet the student's needs for developing functional communication. It was a reflective paper on areas of success and growth in communication and instructional behavior.
6.4 Implement activities and techniques for developing independent living skills.
The artifact for competency 6.4 is an AFIRM module completion certificate over the naturalistic intervention method of evidence-based practices. Using naturalistic intervention, which is a principle of applied behavior analysis, with the natural everyday routines and activities. The naturalistic approach can focus on target behaviors or decrease interfering behavior that occur in everyday life and improve an individuals ability to living a more independent life.
6.5 Apply inclusive principles in the education of individuals with ASD.
The artifact for competency 6.5 is a Relias digital textbook completion certificate over naturalistic teaching strategies. Naturalistic teaching strategies use the natural classroom or environment to promote motivation, functional skills and relationships, and it encourages the maintenance and generalization of various skill sets that allow the individual to be in an inclusive educational setting.
6.6 Develop and implement transition plans for individuals between settings and across the life span.
The artifact for competency 6.6 is an AIM module assessment over comprehensive program planning for individuals with autism spectrum disorder. Developing a comprehensive program and plan includes way to implement transitions across setting and prepare for transitions into the post-secondary world.
6.7 Align job requirements and individual skills, preferences, and characteristics.
The artifact for competency 6.7 is an AIM module assessment over working with an employee with autism. This module explained how to evaluate the skills sets of an individual with ASD and best utilize them as an employees. It also covers topics about work environment and characteristic of ASD.
6.8 Implement instructional strategies that promote the generalization of skills across domains and settings.
The artifact for competency 6.8 in an AFIRM module completion certificate over the evidence-based practice of modeling. Modeling is a strategy that can help explain a task or intervention and show how to transfer a skill or action across different settings allowing for generalization to occur.
6.9 Arrange program environments to facilitate spontaneous communication.
The artifact for competency 6.9 is an AFIRM module completion certificate over the evidence-based practice of visual supports. Visual supports are often keys to communication and can be utilized in most environments to convey the needs and the wants of an individual or to share important information or concepts to an individual with ASD.
6.10 Design and implement instruction that promotes effective communication and social skills.
The artifact for competency 6.10 is an AFIRM module completion certificate over the evidence-based practice of scripting. Scripting can be an important intervention to help build confidence in communication and social skills by practicing how to appropriately interact and engage with another individual.
6.11 Identify evidence-based strategies to increase self-awareness and the ability to self-regulate.
The artifact for competency 6.11 is a SPED 790 assignment over selecting appropriate evidence-based practices. The assignment focused on analyzing and interpreting baseline data to develop observable and measurable goals that also include his strengths, weaknesses, learning style, and motivators.
6.12 Identify evidence-based strategies to increase an individual’s self-determination of activities, services, and preferences.
The artifact for competency 6.12 is a SPED 790 assignment over social narratives. Social narratives are short stories that visually represent different social situations and how to behave properly in social situations. The social narrative can build up confidence in social engagement and lead to self determination in engaging activities, services or expressing preferences.

Domain 6 is focused on designing programs, providing services, and evaluating the outcomes of interventions or transitions. Domain 6 is an expression of knowledge in knowing how to create a continuum of educational services and advocates for success in a least restrictive setting for an individual with ASD.

In Domain 6 the area of implementing environmental, communicative, and socialization interventions are all strengths as detailed in my artifact selection. Having worked with individuals with severe deficits in communication and socialization, my experiences and knowledge can be considered strengths that could be generalized to other interventions. An area of growth for Domain 6 would be in the area of employment and aligning job requirements to individuals with ASD. As a general education teacher I have not worked closely on the transition process of navigating a post-secondary working world.
